Education for the 21st Century

Senator Edwin Sifuna

Education for the 21st Century
Kenya's education system was designed for the 20th century. It rewards memorization over creativity, certificates over skills, and conformity over innovation.

In a world where AI is transforming every industry, where the most valuable skills are coding, critical thinking, and creativity — Kenya continues to produce graduates who cannot find jobs because their education did not prepare them for the real world.

Senator Sifuna's Education Revolution plan:

- FREE TVET FOR ALL: Technical and vocational training will be free and accessible to every Kenyan. No more stigma. No more barriers.

- SKILLS-FIRST CURRICULUM: A complete overhaul of the national curriculum to prioritize practical skills — coding, digital literacy, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship — starting from primary school.

- AI LITERACY FROM CLASS 4: Every child will learn the basics of artificial intelligence and computational thinking from Class 4.

- 100,000 TEACHER UPSKILLING: A massive investment in teacher training to ensure educators can teach 21st-century skills.

- UNIVERSITY-INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS: Mandatory apprenticeship programs linking universities with industries to ensure graduates have real-world experience.

Education is the great equalizer. Done right, it can break every barrier — including the barrier of tribe.
